PELTIER GLASS COMPANY, Original Package. Rare box. An original box of 25 No. 0 Cerise Agates. Cerise Agates are Red Slags. While the box is labeled as manufactured by M. Gropper & Sons Inc. Ottawa, Ill., Gropper was a jobber and these marbles were not made by them. Box in great shape, a little separation of the edges of the lid top creases. Beautiful box. Ottawa IL, circa 1925-1935. Marbles are 19/32" to 21/32" (all within the range of No. 0s). Box is 3-3/8" x 3-3/8". I have categorized this as Peltier, because typically the Gropper boxes that are labeled as Ottawa are typically filled with Peltier's and those labeled as New York City are typically filled with Christensen Agates. However, there has been debate amongst collectors for over a decade that the marbles in the Cerise Agate boxes are actually Christensen Agate. It is known that Gropper sourced marbles from both manufacturers. A close examination of the marbles in this box shows that they bear no characteristics seen in Peltier Slags. However, they do bear a lot of the characteristics of Slags produced at the Christensen Agate Payne Ohio plant. My opinion is that the box contains Christensen Agate marbles, not Peltier.
